The Wellness Edge with Sandi Edghill (Ep 7)

Advocating Without Attacking
Sandi Edghill

Have you ever walked into a difficult conversation carrying so much frustration that your anger started speaking before you did?

In this episode of The Wellness Edge, I'm talking about what it really means to advocate for yourself without allowing anger to take over the conversation.

Inspired by a recent conversation at my son's parent association meeting, I explore why it's important to understand what's beneath our anger before speaking up. Whether you're feeling dismissed, unheard, disrespected, or simply tired of dealing with the same situation, your feelings are valid. But how you communicate them matters.

We'll talk about the difference between expressing yourself and attacking someone, why you don't need another person's agreement to feel heard, and how to communicate your needs and boundaries with clarity, confidence, and intention.

This Week's Edge Work: Before your next difficult conversation, ask yourself: What am I really angry about? What do I need this person to understand? And how can I communicate in a way that reflects the person I want to be?

Remember, you don't have to explode to prove you're serious, and you don't need someone's approval to know that speaking up mattered.

Your voice deserves to be heard. Just make sure it's actually your voice they hear.
