The Wellness Edge with Sandi Edghill (Ep 3)
In this episode, I explore an important question: What is your current definition of success costing you?
I reflect on my own experience of building a successful career, taking on more responsibility, leading, serving, and saying yes to opportunities because they looked like the next logical step. Over time, I learned that being capable of carrying more does not always mean that more belongs in your life.
I share two defining moments from my career. In one, I accepted a promotion without stopping to ask what it would require of me. Years later, I had the opportunity to step into a role I once considered a dream position, but this time I looked beyond the title and asked a different question: What will this cost me?
Drawing from themes in my book, The Road Undefined: A Woman's Guide to Leading with Authenticity, I share why the road that brought you this far may not be the road you are meant to continue traveling. Changing direction does not mean you have failed. Sometimes it means you have become honest about what you need in this season of your life.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Recognizing when success is beginning to cost you too much
• Why every opportunity comes with a cost
• Asking whether you want the life that comes with the opportunity
• Why saying no to an opportunity does not mean saying no to success
• Redefining success in a way that makes room for your health, peace, relationships, and ambition
• Why work-life wellness is not about achieving perfect balance
Your Edge Work for the Week
Take a few minutes this week and ask yourself:
What is my current definition of success costing me?
Think beyond money. Consider your time, energy, health, peace of mind, relationships, and your ability to be present in the life you are working so hard to build.
Then ask:
Is this a cost I am consciously choosing, or one I have simply gotten used to paying?
Finally, think about one small thing you can change this week that would make success feel more like the life you actually want to live.
You do not have to give up your ambition to take care of yourself. You do not have to stop growing, achieving, or wanting more. But your success should not require you to surrender every other part of your life in order to maintain it.
Sometimes work-life wellness begins with one simple decision:
I matter in the life I am working so hard to build.
